Purchasing a Site/Lot and Perpetual Care

The Cemetery has two different sections available for the burial of your loved one:  Old Section & New Section.  Each plot is 4 ft. wide x 10 ft. long – west to east.

There are two costs to purchase a plot:  the purchase of the site and a fee for perpetual care.

Purchasing of a Site/Lot:

The sale of gravesites is open to those that have chosen the S-G Cemetery as their final resting place.

The Municipality of Souris-Glenwood reserves to itself and to those lawfully within the Cemetery a perpetual right of ingress and egress over the lot(s) for the passage to and from other lot(s).

The funds from the sale of plots shall be used for the purposes of Cemetery grounds maintenance and repairs.

No monies will be refunded.

The fee of one lot (see the last page) shall be reviewed and set by the Cemetery Board.

When the Municipality agrees to sell a plot and receives payment in full, it shall deliver to the purchaser thereof a receipt; and a deed, which shall state the total consideration paid, the name and address of the owner(s), and the description of the plot or plots.  The deed gives the plot owner(s) the right to use the plots for burial purposes only (human remains only).

Ownership of a gravesite can be transferred to a family member.

The lot owner(s) or heir(s) has the right to sell and transfer any unused/unoccupied lot(s), but no sale or transfer shall have effect until a transfer, approved by the Municipality of Souris-Glenwood, has been duly completed by the lot owner(s) setting forth the name and address of the transferee, a description of the lot(s) to be transferred and the date of the transfer.

Heirs need the approval of siblings to inter additional family members or to sell/transfer the plot(s).

If the gravesite is not going to be used by the purchaser or a family member, then it can be released back to the Cemetery Board, without a refund of fees, and will be available for sale again.

It would be appreciated if the member could discuss their needs with their immediate family and turn back any gravesites, which will not be needed.

If a plot remains unused for 100 years after original purchase, and no immediate heir(s)/ family member(s) can be located, the Municipality reserves the right to re-claim the plot.  These plots may be resold or used as approved by the Souris-Glenwood Cemetery Board.

Perpetual Care:

The perpetual care fee shall be collected at the time of the sale of the plot.

No monies will be refunded.

The purchaser will receive a receipt for the paid perpetual care.

The Municipality shall transfer to the Perpetual Care Trust Fund the sum equal to the perpetual care fees received.

The interest funds accumulated in the Perpetual Care Trust Fund may be used for the purposes of Cemetery grounds maintenance and repairs.

Perpetual care fees (see the last page) shall be reviewed and set by the Cemetery Board.

Interments/Burials:

Burial is limited to human remains.

Four (4) burials will be permitted in one plot (one traditional & three urns or four urns).

Burial costs will be determined at the time of interment.

All fees charged in conjunction shall be paid at the office the Municipality of Souris-Glenwood.

The funds from the burial/interment may be used for the purposes of Cemetery grounds maintenance and repairs.

To enable locating urns in the future, a piece of high quality iron shall be placed above and directly over the urn, followed by the continuation of filling the opening.

Preparation of graves for a funeral will require a minimum of 48 hours (2 days) notice.  Winter months (Nov. 1 – April 30) will require a minimum of at least 96 hours (4 days) notice.

Costs for each burial/interment (see the last page) shall be reviewed and set by the Cemetery Board.
