Assistant Parks & Recreation Manager
Municipality of Souris-Glenwood (Full-Time, Permanent)
The Municipality of Souris-Glenwood is seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to fill the position of Assistant Parks & Recreation Manager.
Reporting to the Manager of Parks & Recreation, this position is a senior operational role supporting the Manager, providing day-to-day leadership in the coordination and delivery of municipal recreation programs, parks, and facility operations. The role plays a key part in maintaining consistent service delivery and supporting departmental continuity.
Position Summary
The Assistant Parks & Recreation Manager supports the management of municipal recreation services through the coordination of daily operations, supervision of staff, and oversight of multiple facilities. The position assumes operational leadership in the absence of the Manager, within established policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
· Assist in coordinating the day-to-day operations of Parks & Recreation services
· Provide leadership and direction to staff across facilities
· Act as departmental lead in the Manager’s absence
· Support the implementation of departmental plans, policies, and procedures
Facilities & Program Oversight
· Coordinate operations for municipal facilities including arena, pool, campground, community hall, parks, and green spaces
· Assist with the planning and delivery of recreation programs, events, and seasonal activities
· Monitor facility usage, scheduling, and operational requirements
Staff Supervision
· Provide supervision, scheduling, and direction to seasonal and part-time staff
· Assist with staff onboarding, training, and performance feedback
· Identify staffing needs and report operational concerns to the Manager
Administrative & Operational Support
· Assist with budget preparation and expenditure tracking
· Support procurement and contractor coordination
· Prepare operational reports, statistics, and documentation as required
Qualifications
· Post-secondary education in Recreation Management, Public Administration, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
· Minimum 2–3 years of experience in recreation, facility operations, or a related environment
· Demonstrated ability to coordinate operations and supervise staff in a team-based environment
· Valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s Licence
Assets (Preferred Qualifications)
· Experience working in a municipal or public sector environment
· Experience with multi-facility operations (arena, pool, campground, or similar)
· Supervisory experience involving seasonal or part-time staff
· Experience supporting budgets, scheduling, or program delivery
· Relevant certifications (e.g., First Aid/CPR, facility or program-specific training)

Working Conditions
· Combination of office, facility, and outdoor work environments
· 40 hours per week; evening and weekend work required based on operational needs
